1. Introduction and Our Commitment
The health and safety of our dancers, staff, and visitors is our highest priority at DL Dance. We are committed to providing a safe environment for all classes, rehearsals, and performances. This policy outlines our procedures to prevent accidents, manage risks, and ensure a swift response to any health or safety issue. This document applies to all company activities and all individuals involved.
2. Roles and Responsibilities
- The Company: We are responsible for maintaining a safe physical environment, conducting regular risk assessments, providing appropriate first aid facilities, and ensuring staff are trained to respond to emergencies.
- Staff and Instructors: Instructors must be aware of potential hazards in the studio, lead safe warm-ups and cool-downs, and ensure all equipment is used correctly. They are the first point of contact for any health or safety concern and are trained in first aid.
- Participants: All dancers are responsible for their own safety and the safety of others. This includes listening to and following all instructions, wearing appropriate attire, reporting any injuries or feeling unwell, and not using any equipment without an instructor’s permission.
3. Risk Assessment and Injury Prevention
We will regularly assess all studio spaces, equipment, and activities to identify and mitigate potential risks.
- Studio Safety: Before each class, instructors will check the dance floor for any spills, obstructions, or damage. The space will be kept clean and clutter-free at all times. As part of studio safety, we reserve the right to turn away any participants who haven’t pre-booked their space if the class size is at full capacity.
- Warm-ups and Cool-downs: All classes will begin with a thorough warm-up to prepare the body for physical activity and will end with a cool-down to prevent muscle soreness and injury.
- Appropriate Attire: Dancers must wear appropriate clothing and footwear for their style of dance. For example, ballet shoes for ballet class and trainers for hip-hop. This is crucial for stability and injury prevention.
4. Emergency Procedures
In the event of an emergency, all individuals must follow the instructions of the staff.
- Fire: In case of a fire, the fire alarm will be activated. Everyone must evacuate immediately through the nearest fire exit and proceed to the designated assembly point. A map of fire exits will be displayed prominently in the studio.
- Medical Emergency: The priority is to provide immediate first aid and contact emergency services (999) if necessary.
5. First Aid and Injury Reporting
- First Aiders: A designated, certified first aider will be present during all classes and rehearsals.
- First Aid Kits: Kits are located in the main studio.
- Reporting: All injuries, no matter how minor, must be reported to the instructor immediately. An injury report form will be filled out to keep a clear record of the incident. This helps us track and prevent future accidents.
6. Illness and Hygiene
- Illness: Participants who are feeling unwell should not attend class to prevent the spread of illness.
- Hydration: All dancers are encouraged to bring a water bottle and stay hydrated throughout the class. Breaks will be provided to allow for rest and water.
- Hygiene: Dancers are encouraged to maintain good personal hygiene, including hand washing.
