DL Dance: Behaviour and Attendance Policy

1. Introduction

This policy outlines the expectations for all participants at DL Dance regarding behaviour and attendance. A positive and disciplined environment is crucial for learning, growth, and the safety of everyone. By participating in our classes, rehearsals, and events, you agree to abide by the principles set out in this policy.

2. Attendance

Regular attendance is essential for progress, as it helps in skill development and team cohesion, especially for performances.

  • Punctuality: Please arrive on time for your class or rehearsal. Arriving late is disruptive and means you may miss important warm-ups, increasing the risk of injury.
  • Absences: If you cannot attend, you must notify your instructor or a designated company contact as soon as possible. Repeated or unexplained absences may impact your eligibility for performances.
  • Finance: If you are unable to attend a session that you have pre-paid for and you give less than 24 hours notice, you will not receive a refund for this session. If you give more than 24 hours notice and the session is pre-paid, you will receive a partial refund. If you are late to a session that you haven’t pre-paid for, you will still be charged for the full 1 hour session.

3. Behaviour

All participants are expected to conduct themselves in a respectful and professional manner at all times. This includes interactions with instructors, fellow dancers, and visitors.

  • Respect for Others: Treat everyone with kindness and respect. Bullying, harassment, or negative comments in person or online will not be tolerated.
  • Focus and Discipline: Listen attentively to instructors and follow their directions. Maintain focus during class and rehearsals to ensure a productive and safe environment.
  • No Vaping, Smoking, or Alcohol: The use of vapes, cigarettes, or alcohol on the premises or at company events is strictly prohibited.
  • Mobile Phones: Mobile phones should be turned off or put on silent and kept away during class. They should only be used in an emergency or with the explicit permission of an instructor.
  • Dress Code: Follow the dress code for your class. This is important for safety, allowing instructors to see your posture and body alignment clearly.

4. Disciplinary Procedure

Breaches of this policy will be addressed in a fair and supportive manner, with the goal of helping the participant understand the impact of their actions and to prevent future issues. The severity of the action taken will depend on the nature and frequency of the behaviour.

  • First Instance: A verbal warning and a private conversation with the instructor to discuss the behaviour and expectations.
  • Second Instance: A written warning and a meeting with the participant and their parent/guardian (if under 18) to discuss the issue.
  • Third Instance: In cases of persistent or serious breaches, this may lead to suspension from classes or, in extreme cases, removal from the company.

If a participant receives a suspension from classes or is removed from the company, there will be no refund issued for any pre-paid sessions that are outstanding.

5. Reporting Issues

If you experience or witness behaviour that makes you or others feel uncomfortable or unsafe, we encourage you to speak to your instructor or the Designated Safeguarding Lead immediately. All concerns will be taken seriously and handled with discretion.
